Indian ‘Global Award’ goes to Bad Ems, Germany
Lothar Pirc, head of the Maharishi Ayurveda Private Clinic in Bad Ems, Germany, receives ‘Global Hakim Ajmal Khan Award 2007’ in the Indian capital New Delhi on 2 November 2007.
During a grand celebration in the presence of 250 invited guests and media representatives in the festival hall of the state ministry building, Smt Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of the State of Delhi presented the award to the winner Lothar Pirc, chairman and co-founder of the Maharishi Ayurveda Private Clinic in Bad Ems, Germany, which specialises in the ancient Indian system of natural medicine, Ayurveda.
In his words of introduction, Dr Aslam Javed, General Secretary of India’s Hakim Ajmal Khan Memorial Society (HAKMS), explained that the award for 2007 in the category of ‘Organizational and Social Services’ went to the Maharishi Ayurveda Clinic because of its efforts and services in the research, application and widespread promotion of Vedic Science in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Russia.
The award commission highlighted in particular the 30 years of dedicated activity of Lothar Pirc in the area of health care through Ayurveda, mental health through Transcendental Meditation, and efforts to create world peace through the Vedic approach. The fruits of this lifelong involvement were presented in a comprehensive Prizewinner’s Article entitled ‘Ancient Vedic Science as a Solution to the Problems of Modern Society’, (download article as pdf file 1,7MB) included in the 2007 Celebration Brochure.
During several days following the celebration, Lothar Pirc carried out a busy programme of exchange of knowledge and experience, including a lecture to the medical students of the Hakim Ajmal Khan Tibia College. With the goal of intensifying collaboration between German and Indian Ayurveda institutions, he held discussions with the Health Minister of Delhi and other officials, and visited various hospitals and health institutions involved in Ayurveda and modern medicine.
Promotion of ancient systems of medicine
The Hakim Ajmal Khan Memorial Society was founded in 1989 to promote India’s ancient and natural systems of medicine, in particular Ayurveda, Unani, and homeopathy. Each year the Society gives highly prestigious awards for outstanding achievements in these fields. Last year Dr Karin Pirc, co-founder and principal doctor at the Maharishi Ayurveda Private Clinic in Bad Ems, was awarded the title of ‘Best Ayurveda Doctor 2006’. The award commission, chaired by Professor M.S. Usmani, is made up entirely of respected experts in Ayurveda and Unani.
