At the end of the 1970s the Indian sage Maharishi Mahesh Yogi invited anumber of India's most renowned and experienced Ayurvedic physicians to share their knowledge and to integrate the proven methods of the various family traditions to restore the fragmented science of Ayurveda to its original wholeness. This holistic, authentic and scientifically validated form of Ayurveda, known as Maharishi Ayurveda, has become available throughout the world and is accepted as a symbol of highest quality.
In addition, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has completely restored the thousands of years-old scattered Vedic Literature into a complete science, bringing to light its full potential. Through his revival of Vedic science with its various disciplinessuch as Ayurveda, Sthapatya Veda (Vedic architecture), Ghandarva Veda (musictherapy), Jyotish (Vedic astrology) etc, he has made a unique and practicalcontribution to the holistic improvement of many areas of our civilisation.
Today Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is widely regarded as the foremost expert in the studyand development of consciousness. He rediscovered and made available the techniqueof Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programs. Through the practice ofthese techniques, millions of people have experienced improvements in health,vitality, creativity and happiness as well as a decrease in fear, stress and psychosomatic illness. In recent years he has placed great attention on the introduction and use of Vedic technologies for peace. He has established numerouse ducational facilities, such as Maharishi University of Management and Maharishi Schools, throughout the world. These have become models for a new, holistic approach to education and training.
After his passing, on 8 February 2008 at a ripe old age, Maharishi was honoured by the government of India, his native land, for his contribution to the welfare of the whole world, with a state funeral on the banks of the Ganges, at a place rich in tradition, near Allahabad.
