Indian government minister visitsAyurveda clinic in Bad Ems

Minister of State for Health of the central Government of India meets with leading Maharishi Ayurveda representatives in Bad Ems

A high-ranking delegation from the Indian government visited the Maharishi Ayurveda Private Clinic Bad Ems on Friday 9 October. Mr Sh. S. Gandhiselvan, Minister of State for Health of the Government of India, accompanied by Mrs Jalaja, General Secretary of AYUSH (Department of Ayurveda, Yoga Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr Sharma, Ayurveda Advisor to the Indian government, were following up on a recommendation from Professor Dr G.S. Lavekar, the Director-General of the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda. In September Professor Lavekar had toured Germany and visited Bad Ems, in order to gain a personal impression of the development of Ayurveda in Germany.

Leading representatives of the most important German associations of Maharishi Ayurveda met with the Indian delegation, which is currently in discussions with Ayurveda organizations in Germany. During the many hours of meetings in Bad Ems, the discussions focused primarily on the possibilities for establishing Ayurveda as an alternative holistic medical system of health care. Other topics of discussion were opportunities for the expansion of scientific research, and the training of doctors.
Two years ago the then Indian health minister, Mrs Panabaka Lakshmi had visited Bad Ems. The Mayor of Bad Ems Ottmar Canz also appeared delighted at the continuing connection between the Indian government and the Ayurveda Clinic in Bad Ems. He received the new delegation with a brief welcome speech and a hospitality gift, receiving another present in return in an atmosphere of great warmth and cordiality.
After a tour of the clinic and various presentations, the Indian government representatives appeared impressed by the progress of Ayurveda in Germany over a period of more than 25 years.

In their concluding entry in the Visitors’ Book of the Ayurveda clinic, they expressed this as follows: “…. it is truly remarkable how much Ayurveda has been supported and made known by this organization (Maharishi Ayurveda -- editor’s note)…” After the visit, the delegation travelled on to Baden-Baden for an Ayurveda Congress.
